South African singer Tyla has achieved what few artists from her home turf have: global success and relevance.
The two-time Grammy award winner shows no signs of slowing down either.
Fans are counting down the days before she releases her hyper-anticipated follow-up album ‘A*POP’, confirmed to be in music libraries on July 24.
In an album trailer on the artist’s YouTube, Tyla describes this new project as “African”, “confident”, “global” and “unapologetic”.
What else can we expect from the Afro-pop singer in her sophomore album?
Genre
Tyla entered the global stage with her first amapiano hit ‘Water’ in 2024, praised by listeners all over the world for introducing the African subgenre to the western world.
True to her roots, she has embraced African sounds within her music throughout her career, and collaborated with prominent African artists and DJs such as Wizkid, Tems and Kelvin Momo.
For her new effort, African subgenres such as amapiano, afrobeats and afropop will take centre stage as the title ‘A*POP’ is in itself an abbreviation for ‘Afro-pop’.
The 24-year-old has been hailed as the ‘Queen of Popiano’, a title which celebrates her seamless blending of African genres like amapiano with western pop.
Collaborators
One of the singles on the new album ‘SHE DID IT AGAIN’ features Swedish pop star Zara Larsson, one of her most high-profile collaborators.
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr and Jamaican rapper Sean Paul will also appear on the yet-to-be-revealed tracklist.
The project boasts a long and diverse collection of producers. British producers include Sammy Soso, Ari PenSmith and Believve.
More than this, she will be joined by South African producer Cole YoursTruly, Nigerian-British producer P2J and American producer Ian Kirkpatrick.
She is living up to her promise that the album will indeed sound “global” whilst still maintaining a firm African focus.

Singles
‘Chanel’ was released as the first single of her new album last year on October 24. It reached number 15 on the UK singles chart and number 43 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Her next single, ‘SHE DID IT AGAIN’ with Zara Larsson, reached number 40 in the UK and 59 in the US.
Recently, the third single ‘Is It Love’ was released on June 19 after Tyla’s performance of the South African national anthem in Mexico City at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The song reached number one on Billboard’s US Afrobeats chart.
Alongside these three singles, she also included the song ‘Is It’ from a previous EP on the album. The album contains a further 10 songs which fans can look forward to.
If the singles are anything to go off of, then we know Tyla will once again bring the vibrant energy of African house music tinted with R&B and pop to the rest of the world.
