Vietnamese pop musician Wren Evans has been thrust into the limelight after Spotify released its Top Album Debut Global chart, which includes his new album ‘NỔ’ (“Explosion”).
The album features 12 tracks co-written by Evans and his long-time collaborator, Vietnamese music producer itsnk.
Evans, famed for his “music comes first” mentality, unveiled “NỔ” early this month without any promotional teasers, as reported by the Grand Pinnacle Tribune.
In spite of this, Tuoi Tre News reported that the album’s YouTube link garnered more than 100,000 plays overnight.
The Voice of Ho Chi Minh City (VOH) said that ‘NỔ’ combines a wide range of genres, including alternative pop, hip-hop, drill, jerk, new jack swing, United Kingdom garage, and electro pop.
Despite this genre-hopping, Evans’ signature remains: romantic, approachable lyrics laced with a deeper maturity that reflect his changing thoughts on life and love.

Intentional structure
“NỔ” is split into two smoothly connected parts that take listeners on an emotional journey from the mundane realities of life to a musical-like realm of heightened feelings.
As described by VOH, the mood transitions are seamless, taking the listeners through a spectrum of experiences – sometimes dreamy, sometimes raw, but always honest.
The album’s second half softens the mood, and the tracks explore themes of longing and solitude.
Nature imagery – moon, rain, and wind – is used as metaphors for memories, loneliness, and the yearning for love.
The last track, “Nổ Không?” (“Does it explode?”) is a hip-hop drill song that also serves as Evans’ manifesto, expressing persistence and creative rebirth.
Strong digital success
After its release, the album’s tracks rose to the top of digital music charts in Vietnam.
It peaked at No.1 on YouTube Trending Overall, No.1 Daily Artist on Spotify, and No.1 Album on Apple Music, with all 12 songs making it onto Apple Music’s top song list, Vietnam News reported.
Born Le Phan in 2001 in Hanoi, Evans is a renowned contemporary Vietnamese artist.
The musician, who combines pop, hip-hop, and R&B, has swiftly created a connection with young listeners due to his artistic flair and distinctive personality.
The 25-year-old has climbed quickly with critically appreciated albums, including ‘Thich Em Hoi Nhieu’ (“Like You a Little Too Much”), ‘Gap May’ (“Lucky Encounter”), ‘Con Dau’ (“The Pain”), ‘Tung Quen’ (“Once Familiar”) and ‘Cuu Lay Am Nhac (“Save the Music”), Vietnam News said.
