Following state visits to Canada, Japan, and the United States, the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s next meeting is with the Dutch king.

The Indonesian president has arrived in the Netherlands, and is scheduled to meet King Willem-Alexander in an effort to boost bilateral relations and strategic co-operation.

The visit aims to explore opportunities and expand collaborations for a shared future between Indonesia and the Netherlands in areas of mutual interests, according to a post from Prabowo’s official Instagram account.

Netherlands’ welcome

Upon arriving in the European country, Prabowo received a warm welcome from Aide-de-Camp of the King of Netherlands Lieutenant Colonel Joel Postma, Head of the Visits and Events Bob Aal, Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands Mayerfas, and Defence Attaché Colonel Rikrik Permadi Sobana.

Prabowo also received official honours, before getting into a long Cadillac Limousine.

He was honoured by two honour guards at the aircraft’s steps, while eight guards lined up on the right side of the red carpet, as they guided him to the vehicle.

“This vehicle is usually kept at the Royal Stables, in the Noordeinde Palace complex, The Hague, and is only used for high-level events. This reflects the high respect the Kingdom of the Netherlands places on President Prabowo’s visit,” said the Presidential Secretariat in a statement, according to Antara.

Prabowo’s recently-closed deal

Prabowo visited Canada before his arrival in the Netherlands, where a bilateral free trade agreement was signed between the two countries.

The agreement aims to eliminate or reduce tariffs on over 95 percent of Ottawa’s exports to Indonesia.

“This is the right deal at the right time with the right partner,” said Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney, as quoted by CNA.

Carney continued by saying that Indonesia is Canada’s largest export market in the Southeast Asian region.

Among Canada’s exports are soybeans, wheat, potash, and lumber.
