American rapper and singer Nicki Minaj has found herself in the middle of a social media hullabaloo after showing support for US President Donald Trump.
The move was highly criticised by her fans but it did not stop the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker from doubling down on her “respect and admiration” for Trump.
On December 21, Minaj made a surprise appearance at the Turning Point USA AmericaFest event in Phoenix.
Turning Point USA is a non-profit organisation that endorses conservative views and politics on schools and university campuses.
It was co-founded in 2012 by the late political commentator and activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered earlier this year.
Minaj joined Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow (now the organisation’s CEO) during a panel at the event. There, she expressed her support for Trump, describing him as ‘dashing’ and ‘handsome’.
“This administration is full of people with heart and soul, and they make me proud of them,” she added.
She also criticised California governor Gavin Newsom, joking to the audience: “Don’t be Newscum.”

‘We’re the cool kids’
Kirk asked Minaj what she thought of the backlash she received online after ‘coming out’ as a MAGA supporter.
The rapper once again stood her ground and confirmed that it has never been an issue for her: “I didn’t notice,” she replied.
“I don’t think about them… We’re the cool kids. The other people, they’re the ones who are disgruntled, but really they’re just disgruntled with themselves.”
“She’s irrelevant now, just trying to gain some relevance,” a Reddit user commented after Minaj’s appearance.
“She’s doing this to get her rapist husband a pardon, and unfortunately, it will work,” another user replied.
Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, has spent four years in jail for attempted rape. He also pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree.
