The 2004 feel-good classic, “13 Going on 30”, is getting a reboot at Netflix, with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman stepping into the shoes of Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo’s characters as best friends turned lovers.

What do we know so far?

While details about the plot, cast members, and release date are still kept secret, Netflix confirmed Tuesday that Garner will join the project behind the scenes as an executive producer.

Garner portrayed the 30, flirty, and thriving Poise magazine editor Jenna Rink in the original film.

Helming the reboot is Brett Haley, who previously worked with Bader in the Netflix romantic comedy “People We Meet on Vacation”.

In a statement to the entertainment news site Deadline, Haley acknowledged the weight of his responsibility as director.

“’13 Going on 30′ is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer.”

“I’m a long-time fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility,” he said.

Ruffalo played the adult version of Matt Flamhaff, Jenna’s estranged childhood best friend and eventual love interest, while Greer was Lucy Wyman, a high school mean girl who became Jenna’s best friend in her 30s.

“Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful,” Haley added.

The director also expressed his excitement over working with Bader again, adding that “she and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing”.

Bader’s other previous works include the film “Fresh Kills” as well as television shows “My Lady Jane” and “Charmed”.

Lerman, meanwhile, is known for “Oh, Hi!”, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, and the “Percy Jackson” film franchise.

He previously appeared on the fifth season of Hulu’s mystery comedy-drama “Only Murders in the Building”.

What is ’13 Going on 30′ about?

Directed by Gary Winick, “13 Going on 30” follows the story of Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old geek in 1987 who, after making a wish to be “30, flirty, and thriving”, wakes up as a 30-year-old woman.

But Jenna soon realises that adulthood is not as easy as she had hoped.

Aside from Garner, Ruffalo, and Greer, the film also starred Christa B. Allen, Sean Marquette, and Alexandra Kyle as the trio’s younger selves.

“13 Going on 30” raked in nearly $96 million in box office sales worldwide and has since become a cultural phenomenon among millennials.

Its musical counterpart premiered in the United Kingdom last year, with Garner serving as the executive producer.

How did the internet react?

News of the upcoming “13 Going to 30” film has left the internet divided, with fans sharing their excitement and critics arguing whether Hollywood needs another reboot.

“Jenna Rink forever ∞,” Allen, who played young Jenna, commented in Netflix’s Instagram post announcing the project.

Spotify also weighed in, saying the film’s soundtrack “is about to be our entire personality”.

“I’m seriously not okay … this is the best news of my entire life,” another user said.

“DID NOT EXPECT THIS!!! Sooooo excited,” another said.

Some Instagrammers, however, said the film is already perfect on its own and does not need to be touched.

“Okay I love this movie dearly but it’s so perfect we don’t need a reboot,” one wrote.

“Why do we need reboots of past successes? Instead of reusing the same content, can’t we just make something new that’s equally as good?” another asked.
