The Avatar returns in Netflix’s live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender, as seen in a new trailer released on May 21.
Adapting the story of Nickelodeon’s 2005 cartoon, season two continues Avatar Aang’s mission to master all the elements and defeat the tyrannical Fire Lord.
What to expect from season two
The Avatar gang is reunited as they venture into the Earth Kingdom, seeking help from the Earth King in their mission to defeat the Fire Nation.
They are introduced to a series newcomer, Toph Beifong (Miya Cech), a hot-headed blind child with an exceptional talent as an earth bender.
Amidst their journey, the group is pursued by Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) and his sister Azula (Elizabeth Yu), the royal siblings of the Fire Nation who are competing to take down the Avatar.
Furthermore, Aang’s mission to learn earth bending is complicated by a secret turmoil buried within the walls of the Earth Kingdom.

Features seen in the new trailer
The season’s trailer reimagines multiple new locations and characters from the animated series.
The Earth Kingdom’s capital city of Ba Sing Se is heavily featured as well as the iconic line, “There is no war in Ba Sing Se.”
Toph makes her official debut and is seen training the Avatar and showcasing her earth-bending prowess.
Season one regulars also return, with Water Tribe siblings Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley) accompanying a determined Aang with a persistent Zuko not far behind.
Azula appears more prominently this season, now boasting dangerous lightning bending and blue fire in a more cruel pursuit of Aang.

A shot at redemption?
The series was quickly renewed for a second and third season amidst impressive viewership numbers. However, it received mixed critical reviews.
While the elemental visual effects and combat sequences were praised, many fans had problems with the dialogue writing, restructured storylines and some of the casting choices.
The season two trailer has brought an additional talking point about Cormier, who has had an extreme growth spurt since the first season.
There is a lot of discourse around how this will affect the overall story considering its one-year timeframe.
The visual effects and locations shown look incredible once again, but it is unclear how much season two’s story will deviate in structure from the animation.
Fans of the beloved cartoon will have to wait to find out whether their critiques were addressed or ignored.
Season two of Avatar: The Last Airbender premieres on Netflix on June 25, 2026.
