The first semi-final of this year’s World Cup produced a winner after Spain beat France 2-0 to advance to the final on July 19.

But how much do we actually know about the players, the team and their fans?

Here are some fun facts and stats about the World Cup finalists.

Keyne Yamal – the new fan favourite

Lamine Yamal has become one of the biggest and most famous football players in the world despite only recently turning 19.

But lately, someone else has been stealing his spotlight – his little brother Keyne.

Keyne has been well known to the Spanish public for some time but his popularity has now gone global.

Keyne has gone viral several times for the adorable way he has been cheering on his brother and has worked his way into the hearts of millions.

Celebrity fans

The Spanish team has many celebrity fans, including actors Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

Both have attended many major Spain fixtures with their families and were again cheering their team on on Tuesday night.

Other VIPs in attendance included Timothée Chalamet, the Beckhams and football legends Xavi Hernández, Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.

Manolo el del Bombo

Manuel Cáceres Artesero, better known as Manolo el del Bombo, was often described as Spain’s most famous and loyal fan.

Before his death in early 2025, he followed the Spanish team for decades, attending nearly every international match since 1979, one time even reportedly hitchhiking 15,800km to see them play.

He was often shown by television cameras and was instantly recognised due to his trademark outfit, a large red beret, a Spanish jersey and the signature large drum he was carrying with him.

The drum also gave him his nickname.

Most scored penalties in a World Cup

Spain’s penalty against France on Tuesday was the 17th they have scored at the World Cup finals – a new record. In doing so, they overtook France and England, who have both scored 16.

Teenage starters

Of the seven teenagers to start a World Cup semifinal in tournament history, two started for Spain against France – Yamal and Pau Cubarsí.
