Drew McIntyre has continued to be a problem to Cody Rhodes’ title reign after challenging the WWE Champion to “Three Stages of Hell.”
The type of match is a rarity in the industry, as the “Three Stages of Hell” was last conducted in 2013 between John Cena and Ryback.
In “Three Stages of Hell”, two wrestlers must win two out of three falls, with each fall representing a different style of match.
McIntyre made the challenge in the December 26 episode of “Smackdown” as he was awarded the power to pick the match stipulation as part of his reinstatement agreement with general manager Nick Aldis following his suspension for striking a referee.
The match is set to take place on the January 9 episode of “Smackdown” in Berlin, Germany at the Uber Arena
McIntyre’s mind games
McIntyre tried to enrage Rhodes by making personal attacks on his family before revealing the match stipulation.
When Rhodes attempted to approach McIntyre, Aldis forcibly stopped him, stressing that physical contact will end with Rhodes being stripped of the belt.
Shortly after announcing the match, the towering Scotsman tried to provoke Rhodes again, stating: “When I send you straight to hell, say hi to your dad for me,” referring to Dusty Rhodes, the champion’s deceased father.
The mind games worked on Rhodes as he tried to rush McIntyre.
The champion was stopped by Aldis again, but he broke free by shoving Aldis.
However, McIntyre was ready and gave his opponent a “Claymore” kick to the head.

McIntyre continues to terrorise Rhodes
In the latest episode of “SmackDown”, McIntyre revealed each stage of the match.
“Number one, straight wrestling match. I prove to you I’m the better wrestler and I know the refs won’t mess with me,” McIntyre said.
“Fall number two, the falls are going to count anywhere. If you want to ‘DDT’ me on a title it’s legal, buddy. But I can beat you with any weapon in Berlin, all over Berlin.”
“If by some miracle it’s 1-1, we go to a third fall… inside an old-school steel cage. No outside interference, no BS. Two men enter, one champion leaves.”
The mind games did not stop, however, as McIntyre set a picture of Rhodes alongside his father on fire.
A livid Rhodes tried desperately to attack McIntyre, but officials and security stopped the champion as the two are set to lock horns on Friday.
