Ten years after pulling off the career-defining “Heist of the Century”, Seth Rollins rocked the wrestling world after suddenly returning from a seemingly real injury, cashing in his “Money in the Bank” contract against a weakened CM Punk on Night 1 of “Summerslam”.
During the July 12 edition of “Saturday Night’s Main Event”, Rollins faced off against LA Knight, wherein he appeared to have injured his knee after landing a “moonsault”.
He immediately collapsed and nursed his knee, as he was escorted out of the arena visibly furious and limping.
“It (his knee) was a little too swollen. So, we’re going to take another look, hopefully in a week or two here in LA,” Rollins said during a past episode of “The Rich Eisen Show”.
“I am not a doctor. I only know my body and what I feel.”
“And what I feel is that this is going to take me out for an extended period of time.”
There were also candid photos of Rollins in crutches that circulated around social media, making it appear to be a legitimate injury.
The cash-in
After CM Punk successfully beat Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, Rollins came out on crutches and with a knee brace, taunting an emotional and exhausted Punk.
Rollins reminded everyone that he is still the holder of the “Money in the Bank” clause, which he can use to challenge a title holder anytime and anywhere.
He then turned his back, appearing to exit the stage.
Rollins then suddenly stopped and slowly let go of his crutches and removed the knee brace, as the crowd went berserk.
“The Visionary” then charged to the ring and attacked Punk, cashing in his “Money in the Bank” contract.
The impromptu match started, and Rollins proceeded to give a helpless Punk a “curb stomp” to become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
“CM Punk was world champion for just over five minutes, until that man Seth Rollins pulled off the ruse of the century, winning the World Heavyweight Championship in dramatic fashion,” commentator Michael Cole said as Rollins celebrated.

Pulling off the ruse
Rollins stated during Tuesday’s episode of “The Rich Eisen Show” that acting injured took a toll, as it affected personal time with his family.
“Limping around on those crutches for three weeks was excruciating,” he said, as the ruse also involved fooling the media.
The 39-year-old also said that his wife, WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, was “an unwilling participant” as she was forced to lie to friends and family regarding her husband’s health.
