Liverpool has once again been chosen as the backdrop for a new TV drama, titled ‘Army of Shadows’.
The Channel 4 TV series will also be filmed in Manchester, London and Paris.
On Monday, August 3rd, Liverpool’s majestic Town Hall will be taken over by film crews and international stars, as filming resumes.
Liverpool gets ready to welcome celebrities
The drama, written by BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Ronan Bennett, will star British actor Paddy Considine (who many of us know as King Viserys I Targaryen from the hit HBO series ‘House of the Dragon’) and America Ferrera (‘Barbie’, ‘Ugly Betty’).
Joining Considine and Ferrera are also Alex Hassell (of ‘Rivals’ fame) and Kit Harington (‘Game of Thrones’’ own Jon Snow).
Liverpool has often been cherry-picked to act as a set for films and TV shows, sometimes even welcoming international productions.
And while on this occasion the star of the show will be the city’s Town Hall, other venues such as the imposing St George’s Hall have been selected for filming in the last few years.
The building was the venue for the famous funeral scene in 2022’s ‘The Batman’, starring Robert Pattinson in the title role.
St George’s Hall also doubled as Gotham City Hall for the movie.
Liverpool has also been used as a filming location for numerous other projects, such as ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and ‘Dr. Who’, which features the city’s Royal Albert Dock.

A new take on a classic
‘Army of Shadows’ is based on Joseph Kessel’s 1943 book of the same title.
It also takes inspiration from Jean-Pierre Melville’s screen adaptation of the book, which was released in 1969.
The TV show follows the rise of Britain’s resistance during World War II, as the country is occupied by the Nazis.
“Ronan Bennett has created a gripping, provocative and action-packed drama that feels both epic in scale and strikingly relevant,” Gwawr Lloyd, Interim Head of Drama at Channel 4, said.
“‘Army of Shadows’ asks powerful questions about freedom, resistance, and the choices people make when democracy is under threat,” he added.
