Fans will have to wait before seeing the light again after multiple entertainment outlets revealed that the live-action remake of Disney’s Tangled has been put on hold.
Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and IMDb all reported on the story.
Michael Gracey, director of The Greatest Showman, was expected to lead development of the live-action version, with writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson also anticipated to be part of the production.
Tangled was released in 2010 and focuses on the story of Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm.
‘I See the Light’
One of Tangled’s most famous songs was “I See the Light”. Sung by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, it earned several nominations during its release.
Moore was the voice of Rapunzel while Levi served as Flynn Rider.
Actresses Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, known for their roles in Disney’s smash-hit Frozen, auditioned for the lead female role but were not chosen by the producers.
“I See the Light” was nominated in the “Best Original Song” category at the 83rd Academy Awards and also received nods for the “Best Song” category during the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards 2010 and 68th Golden Globe Awards.

Waiting game
Fans of the 2010 film will now have to wait and see if the entertainment giant pushes through with the live-action remake.
Online users are speculating that the live-action Tangled plan was put on hold due to controversies surrounding the recent Snow White.
The Times have reported that Disney could be facing a loss of more than $100 million on the film due to lead actress Rachel Zegler’s stance on the story and her views on several political issues.
Ultimately, however, it is unclear whether or not the Snow White controversy is directly linked to the production pause on Tangled.
