After months of speculation, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has finally put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him stay at Anfield until 2027.
With 27 goals and 17 assists to his name so far, the 32-year-old is having a superb season as Liverpool chase down their 20th league title.
Since arriving from Roma in 2017, Salah, who used to be on the books at Chelsea, has helped the Reds to land numerous trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.
Salah enjoying life at Anfield
“I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football,” Salah said once the extension announcement had been made.
“It’s great. I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10.”
The Egyptian also took the opportunity to thank the fans: “I would like to say to [the fans]: I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
Connecting with the supporters has always been important for Salah, and the two-year contract extension affords him more time with an adoring fanbase.
“It’s a special moment always when you play at Anfield. There is no place like it,” he said. “The warmth you feel inside. The song before the game. Everything about it, every time you score a goal and they sing my song, it’s something special.”

Slot glad to see Egyptian extend stay
Liverpool manager Arne Slot was unequivocal when asked to give his thoughts on Salah’s two-year deal: “Happy of course. He’s shown at this club for so many years in a row now how much value he has for the team and for the club.”
Slot further revealed that he was not caught off-guard by the news.
“I don’t think it’s a surprise to you that I knew a bit better how his contract situation went over the course of the whole season,” the Dutchman said. “I knew for a while that things were heading in the right direction.”
Having replaced the legendary Jurgen Klopp in the summer, the former Feyenoord manager has put together a dream debut campaign in England.
Although they crashed out of the Champions League to PSG and lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle, the Reds currently find themselves nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table with seven games remaining and can already start dreaming of the title.

Attention turns to Van Dijk
With Salah’s contract situation sorted, attention will now turn to the long-term future of club captain Virgil van Dijk.
Reports suggest steps are being made in the right direction but that nothing is concrete yet.
Slot, for his part, refused to be drawn on Van Dijk’s future: “You know the answer. The boring answer. We talk about contracts if they are signed.”
In a positive sign, Van Dijk has made it clear that Anfield holds a special place in his heart, seemingly laying down the gauntlet for Fenway Sports Group to make an extension happen.
“There is progress,” he said. “These are internal discussions and we’ll see. I love the club.”
