Globally celebrated K-pop icons EXO marked their 14th anniversary on Thursday, cementing a career trajectory defined by consistent evolution and unwavering dedication.

Since their 2012 debut, EXO have adeptly navigated the challenging landscape of the global music scene, transforming from spirited K-pop newcomers into seasoned international artistes.

They conquered every obstacle, including industry shifts, military service and member changes, without ever leaving the global charts.

Far from being a simple commemorative event, EXO’s 14th anniversary was distinguished by significant commercial gains and the long-awaited announcement of their first group concert in more than six years.

The echo of eight “million-sellers”

Their eighth studio album, “REVERXE,” which launched in January, had already achieved an extraordinary eighth “million-seller” title.

Riding this wave of impressive momentum, the group confirmed that preparations were well underway for their comeback concert, “EXO PLANET #6 – EXhOrizon. “

Set to take place at the iconic KSPO Dome in Seoul, the event will feature the group’s full lineup in their first solo concert since 2018 and will include performances of tracks from their latest album as well as their greatest hits.

The concert represents a landmark, consolidating their legendary status while honouring the fans who have supported them from the beginning.

Reflecting on a decade-plus legacy

In a recent candid Q&A with Korea Times, the members of EXO offered deeply personal insights into their 14-year odyssey.

They reflected on the formative moments that shaped their resilience, fostered their creative growth, and fueled the anticipation surrounding their upcoming concert.

Suho, the group’s leader, nostalgically recalled filming the music video for “History,” and the initial awe of entering the professional music scene: “I remember getting lost in thought about my trainee days, thinking, ‘I’m finally on the kind of set I used to only see on television.’”

Main rapper Chanyeol simply stated “return,” conveying his excitement and readiness: “We’ve been working together with great energy to prepare for this, and it feels right to be back.”

Meanwhile, main dancer Kai offered “reunion,” underscoring the deep emotional bond with their audience: “It isn’t just about showing a performance. It’s about reconnecting the passage of time between us and the fans.”

‘We Are One:’ A unified message of gratitude

To their steadfast fanbase, EXO-L, who had been an integral part of their journey for 14 years, the members conveyed heartfelt messages of appreciation, highlighting the unbreakable bond they shared:

EXO’s main vocalist, D.O. , expressed sincere thanks and a wish for their well-being: “I am so thankful. My only wish is that everyone stays healthy. Please!”

Suho concluded with a powerful declaration of unity and shared future, encapsulating their enduring slogan: “Let’s go all the way. We are one!”

Fourteen years in, EXO’s journey remains one of sustained success, evolution and connection with global fans.
