Titled “Snoopy Unleashed,” the film will reveal the person on the other end of Charlie Brown’s letters.

Charlie Brown’s mystery pen(cil)-pal

Charlie Brown’s long-time “pencil-pal,” as the principal character from the comic strip “Peanuts” calls it, has been revealed to be a girl from London of South Asian descent named Mia.

Mia uses a wheelchair and is described as a confident girl and someone “who moves through the world differently” by the creators, a parallel to Charlie Brown’s character.

“Charlie Brown is probably one of the most insecure human beings that we know. That’s what makes him charming.”

“It’s how we see ourselves in him. So we felt that we wanted Mia to be more comfortable with who she is,” director Steve Martino stated.

“A big part of her role in the movie is to be a mirror to Charlie Brown, to journey with him and to reflect some things that he couldn’t see himself.”

According to the comic strip, Charlie Brown uses the term “pencil-pal” since he struggles with using a pen in writing his letters and instead uses a pencil.

While Mia will be Charlie Brown’s pencil-pal in the film, a series of comic strips published in September and October of 1994 also identified his pencil-pal to be a Scottish girl named Morag.

‘Snoopy Unleashed’ is a film about real friendship: producer

The film, titled “Snoopy Unleashed,” is set to be released in 2027.

The film was first revealed in 2023, and a sneak peek was given in June 2026 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

“The story is really about what real friendship is about, and I think that continues to be something that’s relevant not only to kids, but adults,” producer Bonnie Arnold stated.

“True friends love you for who you are. And that’s something that we not only have to learn as kids, but we have to remind ourselves as we become teenagers and young adults and adults and even in older age.”

The plot synopsis states that Mia unexpectedly visits Charlie Brown.

Charlie Brown’s relationship with Snoopy is strained as he attempts to live up to the curated version of himself that he has presented to Mia in his letters.

Charlie Brown, Mia, and the rest of the gang pursue Snoopy as he runs for a nearby city.

They learn that true friendship entails accepting one another for who they are.
