Ariana Grande has filed a lawsuit against anonymous hackers, accusing them of stealing and distributing unreleased songs, private photos and behind-the-scenes footage in what her legal team describes as a years-long invasion of her privacy and creative work.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, seeks to identify those responsible and hold them accountable for allegedly profiting from the stolen material, as reported by Billboard.

The complaint names the defendants as “John Does” because their identities are currently unknown.

Hundreds of leaks over more than a decade

The lawsuit argues that Grande has been dealing with music leaks since the beginning of her career in 2011, with the problem escalating in recent years.

According to the filing, around 45 unreleased songs were leaked in 2023 alone.

The complaint also references earlier incidents in which unreleased masters, demos and exclusive photos were allegedly stolen before they were intended to be shared publicly, according to Variety Australia.

A warning to future leakers

Beyond identifying the alleged hackers, the lawsuit is intended to deter similar attacks against artists across the music industry.

Grande is expected to seek court approval to subpoena internet service providers and online platforms in an effort to uncover the identities behind the accounts involved.

The legal action also follows comments Grande made in 2024 after her unreleased song Fantasize leaked online, when she jokingly warned those responsible that she would “see you in jail.”

The latest lawsuit suggests the singer is now following through on that promise.

What happens next?

No defendants have yet been publicly identified, and the case remains in its early stages.

If the court grants Grande’s request to uncover the hackers’ identities, the lawsuit could become one of the music industry’s most significant legal actions against large-scale unreleased content leaks.
