The Indian film “SILAA,” with a production budget of about $4 million, will feature the largest known cave in the world, Son Doong Cave, as one of its key filming locations, according to Vietnamese authorities.
Le Minh Tuan, head of Quang Tri Province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, confirmed on Tuesday that the Bollywood crew has chosen multiple sites in the central province, including the renowned Son Doong Cave, for filming.
“We plan to welcome the film crew at the airport and host a friendly gathering after filming wraps in Quang Tri,” Tuan said, as quoted by Tuoi Tre News.
Strict access rules limit crew inside cave
Directed by Omung Kumar, “SILAA” will be the first Bollywood production to film inside Son Doong Cave.
A crew of about 100 will spend three weeks filming in Vietnam, covering a range of picturesque spots in Quang Tri, Cao Bang and Quang Ninh provinces.
Nguyen Chau A, chief executive of Oxalis Adventure, the official operator of Son Doong Cave tours, confirmed a signed agreement with the Indian film team.
Due to strict environmental protection rules, only 12 crew members will be permitted to shoot inside the cave, he said.
Additional scenes will be filmed at Hang Tien, Tu Lan and Chuot Caves in the Tan Hoa region.
Filming is set to start early next month, with a global release of “SILAA” expected in 2026.

Son Doong’s international fame continues to grow
Son Doong Cave, located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, spans nine kilometers, measures 150 meters wide and features ceilings over 200 meters high, solidifying its status as the world’s largest known cave and a national treasure of Vietnam.
It was previously showcased live by ABC News in 2015 on “Good Morning America.”
Son Doong Cave now lies within the new Quang Tri Province, formed by merging the former Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces.
This change is part of Vietnam’s broader administrative restructuring, which reduced the number of provinces and cities nationwide from 63 to 34.
