Singer Bonnie Tyler was taken out of an induced coma following her emergency intestinal surgery, but doctors said she is still unwell and remains in intensive care.
What happened to Bonnie Tyler?
According to Tyler’s spokesperson, the 75-year-old singer was rushed to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, in May for emergency surgery. Doctors placed her in an induced coma to aid her recovery.
On Monday, her team announced that she is no longer in a medically induced coma.
“Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery, but it is going to take time,” the statement said.
Her team also expressed gratitude to her fans from around the world for their “huge outpouring of love and support”.
Scheduled summer tours canceled
As the singer is still recovering from her surgery, her team announced that all scheduled tours and concerts for the summer have been canceled, while they are hoping for the autumn shows to push through.
“We apologise to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause, but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances.
“We hope to see you next year instead,” they added.
In addition, her family also asked for privacy and promised to give a statement if there are any further significant developments in the singer’s condition, the BBC reported.

Tyler’s successful music career
Born Gaynor Hopkins, Bonnie Tyler is regarded as one of the most successful singers in the world, earning international recognition through her distinctive voice and a string of chart-topping hits.
She became a global superstar through iconic hits such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero”.
Throughout her music career, she participated in various shows, such as the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, representing the UK with the song “Believe In Me”.
In an interview in January 2025, Tyler shared that touring keeps her going and that she has never stopped working, adding that she considers it an achievement to still be liked by audiences despite being in the industry for so long.
“I’m pretty energetic,” she said.
