This weekend, from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6, Formula 1 heads home for the British Grand Prix at the iconic Silverstone circuit.

Silverstone hosted the inaugural Grand Prix back in 1950, and 75 years later, five British drivers will be hopeful for a strong home result.

The British GP’s most successful driver, Lewis Hamilton, will be hoping for a first Ferrari podium to come on home soil, while rookie Oliver Bearman and Thai-Brit driver Alexander Albon will aim to finish well within the points.

But the home favourite with the highest chance of winning the 2025 British GP is McLaren driver Lando Norris.

Norris carries momentum into his home race

Second in the Drivers’ Championship standings behind team-mate Oscar Piastri, Norris is a likely winner this weekend.

While his team-mate has had a more consistent season so far and leads with 15 more points, Norris’ recent win in Austria may serve as a much needed confidence boost ahead of his home Grand Prix.

Heading into Silverstone as a firm favourite to win for the first time in his career, Norris responded to claims that he is Britain’s top F1 driver at the moment.

“I have the best chance of winning the race, I would say, and of course the one who’s most likely fighting for the championship this season.

“Am I British number one? I don’t know. I don’t know how much you take history into account,” he said.

“I think if you still take history into account, then Lewis [Hamilton] is quite convincingly at the top. A lot more race wins and poles and championships than anyone else really, put together.

“Maybe I’m the favourite of the weekend from a British point of view, but I don’t know. That’s your [the media’s] job to put the numbers on people, not mine.

“It would be nice. That’s my goal. It’s the same as it is with any sportsman in whatever series they are, tennis, golf.

“You want to be number one, but I would say I’ve not proven myself to be that yet, but it’s something I’m working on.”

The most meaningful win

With three 2025 race wins secured for Norris thus far, a British Grand Prix victory would be the crowning achievement of Norris’ career so far, despite already claiming the win in Monaco weeks back.

It will be a special feat, not just because of home bragging rights, but because of the history and importance that Silverstone holds in the sport.
