D4vd, a stage name that used to appear in the headlines for his soulful hits like “Here With Me” and “Romantic Homicide”, is now the centre of a horrific murder case that has left the music industry and fans unsettled and hungry for the truth since late 2025.

Rising American singer-songwriter David Anthony Burke is currently being held in custody without bail based on the prosecution’s accusations of him murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Prosecutors delivered their official charges of first-degree murder and other allegations, including sexual abuse of a minor and mutilation of human remains, to the 21-year-old artist on April 20.

Gruesome discovery sparks global shock

The news broke the internet worldwide in September 2025 when authorities found the decomposing remains of Rivas Hernandez inside a vehicle that was confirmed to be owned by Burke.

It was the multiple penetrating injuries cited in a conducted autopsy that gave investigators stronger reasoning to consider homicide in the 14-year-old’s death.

As mentioned in a related report from The Guardian, Burke was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the underaged victim and resorted to ending her life to prevent their secret romance from leaking and ruining his career.

Included in the charges are special circumstances – such as murdering a witness and acting for financial gain – which could widen the chances of him receiving a life sentence without parole or capital punishment if found guilty.

More fuel was added to the case after authorities discovered a “significant amount” of child sexual abuse material connected to Burke, as per court filings.

Defence pushes back, timeline under scrutiny

Despite the charges presented, Burke remained firm in his not-guilty plea.

His legal team contended that he did not cause the teenager’s death and that no murder occurred.

They also aim to challenge the proof the prosecution has brought against the defendant as the case proceeds.

Investigators stated that a residence linked to Burke was the last place the victim reportedly visited in April 2025 before Hernandez was listed as a missing person.

The probe’s complexity, including the strong need to gather enough proof and several forensic challenges, was believed to be the reason as to why it took quite some time for the suspected perpetrator to be apprehended.

Career crumbles as trial looms

The accusations have greatly affected the career Burke had since been trying to save.

For instance, a more intense backlash was reflected in this case after gaming company Epic Games declared refunds for D4vd-themed in-game items after he was brought into custody.

As legal proceedings continue in Los Angeles, upcoming hearings are anticipated to be occupied with the presentation of extensive digital and forensic evidence from prosecutors while the victim’s family actively seeks justice.
