Film news: Nara Smith set to make acting debut in upcoming thriller ‘Tyrant’

In an interesting career move, TikTok influencer Nara Smith will be making her acting debut in the upcoming thriller, Tyrant.

As of April 27, 2026, the Amazon MGM thriller has commenced production.

While details are limited, Smith will be joining a star-studded cast alongside Demi Moore, Charlize Theron and Julia Garner.

The rest of the ensemble will be made up of Hudson Williams, Omar Apollo and Paapa Essiedu.

What we know so far about Tyrant

The film has been kept very under wraps, with very little information on general plot or character available to the public yet.

We do know that it takes place in New York’s elite fine-dining scene, and will be a high-stakes thriller in the vein of Whiplash and Wall Street.

David Weil is set to direct from his own script. The story was developed in conjunction with Cody Behan.

Production has commenced, and filming will be taking place in Los Angeles.

Where to see the cast of Tyrant

While waiting for more details about the thriller to drop, you can catch up on the cast’s other recent projects.

Moore is fresh off the success of her 2024 body horror film, The Substance. She also features in Paramount’s Landman as Cami Miller.

South African Theron starred in the recent release, Apex, available to stream on Netflix as of April 24, 2026.

Garner was involved with three projects in 2025: Weapons, Wolf Man and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The Heated Rivalry breakout star, Williams, can be seen playing with sticks in this ice-hockey romance.

Apollo is known as a singer-songwriter, but made his film debut in the 2024 project, Queer.

Most known for I May Destroy You, Essiedu can also be found more recently in BBC’s The Capture.

Who is Nara Smith?

Finally, Smith can be found on her TikTok page @naraazizasmith.

This culinary thriller seems to be the perfect match for the influencer as much of her content has to do with cooking.

She also makes family-centric lifestyle vlogs with her husband, Lucky Blue Smith and their four children.

Tyrant thus promises to bring the heat with its variety of different cast members.
