The punk rocker Superman is set to return to theaters on July 9, 2027.
Social media announcement
Teasing the official title, “Man of Tomorrow”, director and DC Films co-head James Gunn has announced the new Superman film on social media.
Gunn even added a comic book artwork by DC head Jim Lee in his post. Lee’s art featured Superman leaning against arch-nemesis Lex Luthor in a green and purple warsuit — the very suit made to be on par with Superman’s strength and which has only been seen in comics and animation.
“I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga,’” said Gunn, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today,” he added.
A fan asked Gunn on Threads how much of the script was done, to which the writer-director simply answered, “All of it.”

Not your usual sequel
Gunn noted that “Man of Tomorrow” is not directly a traditional sequel to Superman (2025), but it will show characters familiar to the viewers.
It was also clarified that the title is as it is, without including the name “Superman.”
While the story is still a mystery and remains confidential, the title and art left clues open to interpretations.
DC also had “Superman: Man of Tomorrow”, an animated film released in August 2020. It was based on a twelve-issue comic book limited series “Superman: Birthright” in 2003.
Massive punk rock success
Gunn’s Superman (2025) had massive success in the box office with $611,6 million gross worldwide.
The film was the first entry to the DC Universe, which served as a reboot of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). From ‘Man of Steel’ in 2013 to ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ in 2023, the DCEU featured 15 films.
IMDb now has a page for the new Superman film, showing the same cast with David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
