British team Aston Martin have set February 9, 2026 as the official launch date for their 2026 Formula One car, the AMR26.

The AMR26 is the team’s first car designed under the guidance of the celebrated designer Adrian Newey.

This news comes as F1 enters a new technical era in 2026 with updated regulations.

Aston Martin teased the reveal on social media with an image showing the car’s name drawn in pencil – a subtle nod to the creative work behind the new design.

For drivers, things will stay the same: two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will continue as the team’s line-up for 2026.

Interestingly, the timing of the launch (February 9) comes after the first private group pre-season test under the new regulations, which takes place in Barcelona from January 26-30.

A new era under Adrian Newey

With Newey now fully involved and a dramatic regulatory change looming, the AMR26 represents a fresh start for Aston Martin.

Many fans and commentators will watch closely to see whether this new car can help the team climb up the grid in 2026.

But there’s more context to this move: Newey will also become Team Principal of Aston Martin in 2026, after the team recently announced a leadership restructure.

Despite taking on this extra responsibility – which includes guiding the technical team and overseeing track-side operations – Newey has insisted that he will not let these duties distract him from what he does best: designing and developing F1 cars.

“That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning so I’m determined not to dilute that,” Newey insisted.

His new boss, current team principal and CEO Andy Cowell, will shift to a new role as Chief Strategy Officer, focusing on managing the partnership between Aston Martin and the new engine supplier Honda.

As well as the fuel supplier Aramco and lubricant partner Valvoline – a crucial task as the team makes the jump to a full-works outfit in 2026.
