Pop the champagne because our ‘FirstPrince’ ship is back!
Amazon MGM Studios has recently greenlit the highly anticipated sequel to queer rom-com ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’, giving it an all-new title that has people hearing… wedding bells?
‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ will see Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez reprise their roles as Prince Henry and First Son of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz, respectively.
While the plot for the sequel remains secret, it will most likely give the fans further insight into Alex and Henry’s developing love story after the chaotic events of the first movie, during which their secret relationship was revealed to the world without their consent.
The title also seems to be hinting at a royal wedding, which had fans buzzing online.
Although no details have been announced yet, the ‘FirstPrince’ shippers definitely have their fingers crossed.

Who are the minds behind ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’?
The sequel will be directed by Jamie Babbit and follow the script written by Gemma Burgess, Matthew Lopez and Casey McQuiston.
Babbit is known for directing ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’, a 2000 queer cult classic starring Natasha Lyonne.
She has also directed episodes for Prime Video’s ‘My Lady Jane’ and ‘The Marvelous Ms. Maisel’.
“After directing ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ in my 20s, I’m thrilled to be back in the queer love universe of ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’,” Babbit said in an Amazon statement.
“We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy, and gay joy. I’m thrilled to work with this brilliant team.”
Lopez, who directed the first movie adapted from McQuiston’s 2019 novel of the same name, said he is “excited to continue telling Alex and Henry’s story with ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’.”
“It’s been a blast to dream up the next chapter of their story as a producer and co-writer and I’m delighted to be passing the directing baton to Jamie, whose vision and sense of humor will be a perfect match for our film,” he added.
For McQuiston, working on bringing the first movie to life was a “dream come true.”
“And I hope readers and watchers alike will love how the story continues in the sequel.”
“I’m so grateful to Matthew for all his hard work on the first movie and in co-creating this new story with me, and I know that Jamie has the vision, wit, and tenderness to take great care of Alex and Henry from here.”

Apart from Galitzine and Zakhar, Amazon MGM has yet to reveal further casting news.
However, Uma Thurman – who played Alex’s mother, US President Ellen Claremont – previously said that she will do the movie “when it’s ready.”
It is also possible that Clifton Collins Jr, Sarah Shahi and Rachel Hilson will return to reprise their respective roles.
When is the sequel releasing?
There is no official release date yet.
