Sony/Crunchyroll’s horror anime movie ‘Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc’ whipped past $100 million this weekend, according to Deadline.
The feature is the direct sequel to the anime’s first season, which was released in 2022.
Fans all over the world have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of the anime adaptation of the manga, written and created by Japanese manga artist, Tatsuki Fujimoto.
Many of them showed up in cinemas on release date in cosplay, wearing outfits, wigs, and make-up to display their version of their favourite characters.
More trouble for Denji
‘Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc’ follows the series’ main character, 16-year-old Denji, as he meets Reze, a girl working at a cafe, and immediately falls in love with her.
The apparently simple plot is obviously complicated (for the better) in the context of Fujimoto’s work, in which not only Devils (beings created by collective fears of humanity) and Devil Hunters exist, but Denji can also transform into a chainsaw-wielding monster, with Reze potentially hiding a secret or two.
The perfect recipe for a bloody, gory, but exciting adventure.
The movie perfectly encapsulates the spirit that made the manga and the anime so popular over the years, with breathtaking animation and wacky comedy, mixing with more emotional moments and surprising plot twists.

Another win for Crunchyroll
The success of ‘Chainsaw Man – The Movie’ is another triumph for American streaming platform, Crunchyroll.
Just two months ago, the service, which primarily distributes Japanese anime TV series and films, released ‘Demon Slayer – The Movie: Infinity Castle’, which earned $667 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Japanese film ever.
Its success surpassed that of iconic Japanese anime classics such as Studio Ghibli’s ‘Spirited Away’ and Makoto Shinkai’s ‘Your Name.’
The achievement reached by ‘Chainsaw Man – The Movie’, animated by popular studio MAPPA, is only the latest win for anime films, as they are becoming more and more popular.
Both MAPPA and Crunchyroll also have another smash hit on the horizon, with ‘Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution’, the continuation of the hugely popular ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ anime TV series, set to be released in November.
