Viewers will be able to witness more chaotic action from the world’s beloved pretend family, as early October marked the premiere of “Spy × Family” Season 3.

Picking up where it left off, the third instalment carries on with its well-blended plot, consisting of espionage, comedy and heartwarming family drama that evidently brought global success to the series.

A mission behind the masks

The collaborative vision of producers Wit Studio and CloverWorks for the new season aims to deliver a deeper narration about the tangled double lives of the Forgers.

A top-secret mission created to keep a Cold War between the rival nations of Westalis and Ostania from erupting has led father Loid, a psychiatrist; mother Yor, a poised city hall employee; and daughter Anya, a gifted elementary student, to become an ordinary family.

But in reality, the word “ordinary” is far from the true identities each individual tries to mask.

Under a professional psychiatrist hides a master spy named “Twilight”, who is cluelessly partnered with a soft-spoken elite assassin to co-parent a mind-reading young girl.

New arcs, higher stakes

Season 3 opens the chapter following the action-packed cruise adventure and shifts into unveiling new storylines straight from Tatsuya Endo’s manga.

Arcs, particularly the “Friendship Schemes” and “Red Circus”, are what fans can expect to unfold in the 13-episode series, according to an article from Gamesradar+.

The mentioned arcs will cover more intriguing undercover missions, school politics and intensifying danger.

As the story progresses, the mask hiding Loid’s true nature starts to seriously challenge his role as a husband and father in this ordinary family, while Yor confronts emotional turmoil that puts her understanding of “family” to the test.

Bonds beneath the lies

“Spy × Family” has always focused on how delicate connections build stronger bonds, an important touch in the story that walks fans through its smooth action and funny moments.

With this, Season 3 is poised to further intertwine pretence with genuine affection as Anya’s telepathy uncovers both the humour and loneliness beneath the lies.

Fans all over the world can catch the latest episodes of the series weekly every Saturday on major streaming platforms, including Netflix and Crunchyroll – a holy grail of anime fans.

The third instalment’s final episode is expected to air in December 2025.

A global hit that redefined anime family

Seasons 1 and 2 of “Spy × Family” achieved outstanding success, with Season 1 becoming the most-streamed anime in Japan in June 2022 and being listed together with popular series like “Case Closed/Detective Conan”, according to Anime Hunch.

The first instalment of the spy comedy series also dominated multiple streaming rankings for months after its release.

TV Fandom Lounge cited that its live + 7-day DVR broadcast reached over 6.919 million viewers in Japan alone.

Moreover, the series obtained a spot in the Netflix Global Top 10 for non-English TV upon Season 2’s premiere, with its opening episode drawing 1.5 million views globally in its first week, as cited by a related report from Contentasia.
