Vietnam’s Da Nang People’s Committee has officially announced the organising committee for the upcoming third edition of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III).

DANAFF III is anticipated to draw a huge number of film enthusiasts, including Asian and international filmmakers, well-known local artists, and up-and-coming filmmakers.

The organising committee includes representatives from both local and national agencies.

Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi has been appointed head of the committee, while Central Council for Literature and Arts Theory and Criticism Deputy Head Ngo Phuong Lan and the chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion and Development of Cinema will serve as co-head and festival director.

Other key members of the committee include Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Deputy Director Ha Vy; the Cinema Department Director-General under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) and the Vietnam Film Development Association Vice Chairwoman Ly Phuong Dung; Da Nang Police Department Acting Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dai Dong; and Da Nang People’s Committee Deputy Chief Dang Cong Nhut.

In addition, the MoCST’s Department of International Cooperation Director-General Nguyen Phuong Hoa and Da Nang’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Director Truong Thi Hong Hanh have been named as deputy heads of the organising committee.

Film screenings

The third edition of DANAFF is set for June 29 to July 5.

Around 200 screenings will take place during the event, which is being co-organised by the Vietnam Film Development Association and the Da Nang People’s Committee, according to the organisers.

“Expanding from five official days in the past editions to seven this year, the festival will showcase over 100 selected films, up from 46 in DANAFF I and 63 in DANAFF II,” said Festival Director Lan.

“The number of screenings has also doubled to approximately 200, compared to 100 last year.”

Black Dog, the winner of the Un Certain Regard section at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, and 13 other films, including Mua Tren Canh Buom (Don’t Cry, Butterfly) – which was directed by up-and-coming Vietnamese filmmaker Duong Dieu Linh – are among the noteworthy films that will be screened during DANAFF III.
