The final trailer for the sixth movie of the hit horror franchise Insidious has officially dropped in anticipation of its release in theatres later this month.
Insidious: Out of the Further will bring fans back to the eerie, parallel realm of The Further, where lost souls languish forever, which has been the central theme of the franchise’s original lore.
The franchise, which accumulated a total of $740 million in box office earnings in five films, has been one of the most successful horror series in recent times.
A legacy film
Based on the trailer, the film will feature Gemma (Amelia Eve), a new character in the franchise, who happens to discover that she has the ability called astral projection. Meaning, she can remotely travel to The Further.
Considering what we know of the franchise lore, travelling to The Further, even unknowingly, draws unwanted attention not only from the souls trapped in there, but also from darker, malevolent entities who seek to control a human body.
Actress Lin Shaye will also reprise her role as paranormal investigator Elise Rainier, who has been the hallmark character across five films of the franchise.
Her appearance is expected to help the main character make sense of the disturbing, paranormal events that will haunt the film.

A new plot direction
The screenplay was developed by Jacob Chase, who also directed the film.
Aside from the franchise’s trademark jump scares and scary imagery, the new film promises to introduce the franchise to a much more dangerous direction.
One of the franchise’s strengths is the astute blending of emotional storytelling with the darker and more sinister undertones of the movie.
One of the highlights that the fans are eager to see is the revelation of the film’s new demonic villain.
The franchise has so far introduced us to a collection of malignant entities, namely, the Lipstick-Face Demon, Bride in Black, the Wheezing Demon, and Keyface.
Will Out of the Further revitalise the Insidious franchise to newer heights? We will soon find out.
