Philippine lawmakers have moved to formally honor SB19, the nation’s chart-topping ensemble, for turning Filipino creativity into worldwide pride.
Two separate measures now await review, each highlighting milestones that have lifted local sound and placed the nation’s hospitality sector on a brighter global stage.
Legislative tribute filed
House Resolution No. 1280, backed by Representatives Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez, Nelson Legacion, Sarah Jane Elago, and Kathryn Joyce Gorriceta, points to landmark moments including the group’s role as tourism envoys, their appearance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza, and member Josh Cullen’s ceremonial pitch at a well-known United States baseball venue.
The document noted that SB19’s reach has drawn crowds from across borders, with Filipinos living abroad and first-time visitors traveling home to see them perform.

Driving tourism and cultural pride
“SB19’s immense international reach has directly catalyzed a surge in music tourism, inspiring returning overseas Filipino workers, many of whom have not visited the Philippines in years, as well as international fans to travel to the country to witness their concerts live on home soil, thereby generating significant economic activity, increasing hotel occupancy, and boosting national tourism,” the resolution stated, as cited by Manila Bulletin.
Beyond travel gains, the measures aim to credit the group with sparking curiosity about the nation’s identity.
“Through their uncompromising commitment to write and perform Filipino music, SB19 has inspired thousands of foreign fans across Asia, North America, Europe, and beyond to learn the Filipino language and deeply appreciate Philippine traditions, heritage, and values,” the text read.
Paving the way for future talent
Benitez remarked that this success opens doors for those who follow.
“SB19 made room for the next Filipino act that follows. The work now is making sure the industries behind them, from music to tourism, are ready for the attention,” he explained.
A second measure, House Resolution No. 1266 filed by Representative Charisse Anne Hernandez of Calamba, offers further praise.
It describes the group’s achievements as exemplary of “excellence, resilience, innovation, and patriotism.”
Both resolutions now sit before the House Committee on Creative Industries.
SB19, short for Sound Break 19, is a five-member Filipino boy group widely credited with propelling Philippine pop (P-pop) onto the world stage.
Formed in 2016 under ShowBT Philippines, debuting in 2018, and later establishing their own management company, 1Z Entertainment, the group comprises Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken, and Justin.
Their breakthrough hit Go Up (2019) went viral, followed by historic milestones: first Southeast Asian act nominated for a Billboard Music Award, chart-toppers such as Bazinga and Gento, performances at major global festivals, and recognition across international media.
