The horror parody film “Scary Movie” is giving its fans a reason to celebrate the return of its franchise to the big screen – actresses Anna Faris and Regina Hall will play their iconic characters together once again for a brand-new installment of the popular film franchise.
The two stars will bring back the comedic chemistry of Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell in the upcoming revival – names that left an impact on viewers in the early 2000s.
The Wayans brothers return as writers
The Wayans brothers will fuel the plot with their creativity as the writers of the much-awaited instalment.
Their eagerness to revive the story stems from the success of the 2000 blockbuster that gave the franchise a noteworthy push in the film industry.
Marlon Wayans announced the project in a recent post on Instagram, saying, “After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!”
A photo of Faris and Hall together on the set of the original film was also included in the post.
Meanwhile, Michael Tiddes, best known for “A Haunted House”, will take over the directing.
Work on the film’s production is anticipated to kick off later this year, with June 12, 2026 marked as its official release in theatres across the globe.

Nostalgia meets modern parody
Details of the plot remain undisclosed, but sources indicate the reboot will satirise current horror trends and thrillers from the streaming era, integrating the wild slapstick comedy that fans anticipate.
From the return of “Scream” to viral online frights, no cultural event is beyond reach.
“Scary Movie” is believed to be a franchise with staying power, considering the four sequels it has spawned since its debut and their global gross of nearly US$900 million.
The series also rapidly evolved into a comedy essential of the early 2000s due to its incisive parody of horror films and popular culture.
Fans anticipate a comic comeback
Hall and Faris were last seen together in “Scary Movie 4” (2006).
Their comeback has already garnered a huge buzz on social media, as long-time fans are eager for the pair to infuse new energy – and plenty of humour – into the franchise.
Faris even told PEOPLE Magazine last July, “I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much.”
“We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!”
Blending nostalgia, cultural critique and absurd comedy, the upcoming “Scary Movie” revival is set to remind viewers why the franchise is among the most successful parodies in Hollywood’s history.
