Gaming news: Marvel’s “Wolverine” shares exciting new look at upcoming game

Marvel's Wolverine game

Marvel’s upcoming “Wolverine” game recently showcased a new look after the extended gameplay trailer was revealed at Sony’s recent State of Play programme.

The game featuring the X-Men hero is being developed by Insomniac Games, who were also behind the three successful “Spider-Man” games released from 2018 to 2023 on PlayStation.

After being first announced in 2021, “Wolverine” was later one of the victims of a ransomware attack on Insomniac Games in 2023.

However, this year’s State of Play event provided a positive update and shared the most detailed look at the game so far.

Marvel’s “Wolverine”

“Wolverine” is a standalone story which takes place in the same fictional universe as Insomniac’s Marvel games, although reportedly not including Spider-Man.

It follows the titular Wolverine, a popular X-Men character who is known for his short temper and his three iconic retractable claws.

Besides the claws, Wolverine’s powers include a regenerative healing factor, heightened animal instincts and a metal-coated skeleton.

The game takes inspiration from the character’s various comic runs and other media appearances to tell a unique story.

A new look at “Wolverine”

The trailer provided an exciting look at the gameplay, graphics and story.

We finally get a glimpse of Liam McIntyre as Wolverine, who delivers a convincing voice performance for the character as the trailer opens on him in a slick yellow and blue suit.

Drawing on his notorious claws and animalistic agility, the extended snippet shows Wolverine violently taking down enemies as he makes it through a mission.

Players can expect to cause carnage with the primally-charged hero as is seen in the gruesome combat from the walkthrough.

The bloody graphics are a big contrast to the Spider-Man combat system, yet showcase that Insomniac have clearly succeeded again in providing an authentic and exciting interpretation of a Marvel hero for fans to play as.

The rest of the trailer also shares a taste of the story, as the cutaway sequences included appearances from X-Men characters like Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and the Sentinels.

The highly anticipated game is scheduled to release on September 15, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
