Vietnam’s capital Hanoi, attracted 2.8 million tourists in July, marking an increase of 10.3% year-on-year, according to its Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

International arrivals reached 553,190, up 25.2%, with 390,000 staying overnight.

Domestic travel also performed well, with 2.25 million visitors, up 7.1%.

Tourism revenue for July was estimated at $419 million, up 13.9% year-on-year, Vietnam Investment Review reported.

18.36 million visitors in seven months

From January to July, Hanoi welcomed 18.36 million tourists, up 11.6% year-on-year.

Of these, 4.21 million were international visitors, up 22.3%, with 2.97 million overnight stays.

Domestic tourists totaled 14.15 million, up 8.7%.

Revenue for the seven-month period was estimated at $2.86 billion, up 14.5% year-on-year.

Service quality enhancements are evident in the growing number of certified tourism businesses in the capital city, now totaling 58. 

These include 25 restaurants, 22 shops, and nine entertainment venues, all aimed at improving the overall tourist experience and boosting spending.

Hanoi currently has 3,761 accommodation providers offering over 71,200 rooms, including 85 one-to five-star hotels and serviced apartments.

Despite rising visitor numbers, July’s average room occupancy stood at 56.94%, down 1.6 percentage points year-on-year.

Plans for remaining months

Hanoi is aiming to boost visitor numbers while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and quality, aligning with its long-term development goals.

Dang Huong Giang, director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said that activities in August will center around the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

Plans include organizing a tourism destination management conference and enhancing international promotion of the capital.

Hanoi will take part in global tourism events such as the Osaka Expo, a cultural and tourism fair in Nagoya, and the International Tourism Bourse in India.

At home, the department is coordinating with other localities to launch new tourism products focusing on agricultural tourism, night tours, golf tourism, and community-based experiences rooted in ethnic traditions.
