Emmy award-winning actress Laura Dern has joined the cast for the fourth season of ‘The White Lotus’ just days after Helena Bonham Carter left the project.

Bonham Carter’s departure sparked internet speculation of behind-the-scenes drama, but HBO squashed that with a statement of their own.

“With filming just under way on season four of ‘The White Lotus,’ it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” said HBO spokesperson.

They continued, “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.”

Enter Laura Dern

The US actress will now be “checking into season four,” but no further character details have been released to the public yet.

According to the show’s makers, she will play a role that is central to the fourth season’s story.

This is not her first ‘White Lotus’ experience though, as she did an uncredited voice cameo in the second season.

She has also previously worked with the show’s creator, Mike White, both on HBO’s ‘Enlightened’ and ‘Year of the Dog’ (2007).

Dern is known for her award-winning performances in ‘Marriage Story’ (2019) and the TV series ‘Big Little Lies’.

She also played the iconic Dr. Ellie Sattler in ‘Jurassic Park’ (1993).

What else we know about ‘The White Lotus’ season 4

Much like with Dern’s character, details about the fourth season’s story are scant.

Though like previous seasons, it is sure to have heightened tensions, classy holiday spots and of course, murder.

We do know that the story is set to take place during the Cannes Film Festival and as such, shooting has been taking place in Cannes and St. Tropez.

Filming is scheduled to continue during this year’s real Cannes Film Festival, from 13-24 May 2026.

Shooting is also expected to take place in Monaco and Paris.
