Liverpool manager Arne Slot admits it was ‘nice to see Harvey Elliott score a goal’ in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night.
The midfielder has struggled for minutes on the pitch this season, watching on from the sidelines as Slot’s Reds stormed to Premier League title glory.
The Merseysiders have seemingly hit a rough patch since securing the Premier League crown, and Slot has given fringe players such as Elliott a chance to shine as the season winds down.
Victory sealed in final moments
Brighton came from behind twice to secure three valuable points in their pursuit of European football – with substitute Jack Hinshelwood netting the winner with five minutes remaining.
Midfield-conductor Dominik Szoboszlai also got on the scoresheet for the visitors and Slot told Sky Sports: “After they scored [to make it] 2-2, I think the momentum swung their way and then they scored the third, it was a close margin.
“Two very good teams were on the pitch. We didn’t score a third when we were up.
“I know these players already for 10 months, so it’s not the first time I’m judging them.
“It’s nice to see Harvey Elliot score a goal.
“In general it was a good game from both teams, both teams wanting to play football – no time wasting or delaying, just play football.”

Palace visiting Anfield
Liverpool conclude their league campaign with an outing against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday (kick-off 4pm).
And Elliott, who has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window, says he will consider his future once the season has been completed.
He told Sky Sports: “Some lads like myself haven’t played as much and it’s about going out and enjoying it. We want to win and enjoy it.
“We need to take the positives and take it into the final game next week.
“I think I’ve done it this season. It’s been hard with how much I’ve played.
“I’ve tried as hard as I could and whatever happens, happens.
“It’s about what’s best for my career. It’s about reflecting and seeing what I can do. I’m here at the moment and I’m focusing on the final game.”
