Most Vietnamese travelers plan to take domestic vacations: trends report

About 69% of Vietnamese travelers plan to take domestic vacations during the forthcoming festive holiday period, according to Travel Trends 2025, which was published earlier this month.

Among them, 42% prefer well-known destinations, 37% mention the ease of short travel times, and 45% said they would consider attending a local festival while traveling, as cited by business newspaper Vietnam Investment Review.

Furthermore, the close proximity of the New Year’s holiday to the weekend is anticipated to increase demand for short breaks, as 83% of Vietnamese travelers favor weekend vacations.

Top 10 most searched Vietnamese destinations

The top 10 domestic tourist destinations that Vietnamese travelers want to visit between December 20, 2025, and January 4, 2026, include Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Mui Ne, Hoi An, and Sa Pa, according to a report by the Vietnam News Agency.

With an 86% year-on-year rise in search interest, Phu Quoc continues to be the most popular domestic destination for the holiday season.

Following are Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh City, and Ha Noi, each of which offers a variety of seasonal events and festivities.

Beach destinations like Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, and Mui Ne are still appealing for leisure tourism, while Hoi An and Sapa continue to draw tourists looking for cultural or celebratory experiences.

Short-distance international travel booming

Additionally, short-distance international travel is becoming more popular among Vietnamese tourists.

According to 30% of respondents, they want to travel abroad for one to four nights in 2025, while another 29% are considering going for five to seven nights.

The most popular short-distance international travel destinations are Bangkok, Tokyo, and Seoul.

Meanwhile, Sydney and Paris were among the top destinations for longer travels.

Sydney’s famous New Year’s Eve events continue to make it a popular option, but Paris is the quickest climber in the top 10, with search interest increasing by 51% year-on-year.

Visitors to Vietnam seek cultural, recreational activities

A broad interest in cultural and recreational activities is also reflected in search data for inbound visitors to Vietnam between December 20, 2025, and January 4, 2026.

International tourists are searching for coastal and island destinations like Phu Quoc, Da Nang, and Nha Trang, as well as Hoi An, Sapa, and Da Lat, in addition to the main entry points of Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi.
