Globally-acclaimed boy band SEVENTEEN is proving once again that South Korea’s mandatory military service will not dampen their passion for music and creativity by taking the enlistment period as an opportunity for reinvention through the introduction of sub-units.
A vow from a charismatic, dependable leader to make a K-pop group with 13 members work even after 11 years was further solidified on July 6, 2026, following another sub-unit announcement.
No pause, just a new chapter
PLEDIS Entertainment, the group’s agency, confirmed with news outlet, Dispatch, the selection of members Jeonghan and Joshua as the next duo to debut as the latest sub-unit of SEVENTEEN in October, a related report from Soompi cited.
This counts as a first unit project for Joshua, yet for Jeonghan – it will be his first musical release since his return in late June after completing military service and second sub-unit after being the first member to debut in a duo in June 2024.
They are the group’s seventh official pair expected to drop hit tracks following earlier units such as BSS, Jeonghan x Wonwoo, Hoshi x Woozi, S.Coups x Mingyu, DK x Seungkwan and the recently launched Vernon-The8 duo, V8.
Fans also see this strategy as a way for SEVENTEEN to remain productive amid a temporary hiatus from full-group promotions, considering the enlistment preparations of members Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino.
This means there will be no dull moment for the group as PLEDIS ensures to grant active members a chance to pursue solo careers and smaller collaborations, as well as deliver fans new music throughout the hiatus period.

Additionally, the project marks as a refreshing comeback for Jeonghan after being the first to conclude his enlistment.
Not only is this the time for the two to show more of what their chemistry can bring, but also on what musical masterpiece can be formed from their warm vocal blend and artistic touch.
Their upcoming debut also has CARATs anticipating on what musical direction the duo will explore.
Until all 13 members reunite on stage, as pledged by leader S.Coups, projects like launching a new sub-unit are solid proof that SEVENTEEN’s journey in the music industry will only continue to move forward.
