The wait is finally over!
Netflix has given fans their first look at the adaptation of Emily Henry’s beloved 2021 novel, “People We Meet on Vacation”, with an official trailer released on September 30, offering not only a heartwarming romance but also backstory deliveries that resonate even after the credits roll.
A reunion wrapped in tension
The trailer starts off with a mood establishing the beginning of a well-planned summer vacation before the actual unfolding of the story.
We then encounter Poppy and Alex, the main duo portrayed by actors Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, while in motion – luggage carousels, airport gates, overlapping voiceovers – and the chemistry is immediately palpable.
Asked whether they are more than friends, denial moves quicker than honesty as they say in unison: “Oh no, we’re just friends.”
The tension lies not in the words themselves but in how they were said, the way their eyes darted, and the passing hint of regret behind a smile.
Love and escapism in every frame
There is no denying the “romance of escape” emphasised in the visuals of the trailer.
Snippets of shorelines, bright skies and soft transitions shown in the one-minute and twenty-five-second trailer were intended to depict a well-blended imagery of past vacations with the present moment.
The contrast between Poppy’s spontaneous joy and Alex’s more reflective stillness is highlighted strongly – yet their interaction implies they were always meant to be, even if they do not see it yet.
