The National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) in Papua New Guinea revealed Monday that its online platform now includes an option for the public to register their information and career interests.
Ballooning unemployment issue
Speaking at the launching ceremony, NYDA Director General Joe Itaki said the project aims to address the ballooning unemployment issue in the country.
The system will allow school leavers, dropouts and those who never attended school – regardless of the reasons for their educational disruption – to register their skills directly with their district development offices.
“This move is part of a broader national initiative, bridging the gap between urban and rural youth in accessing government support,” the official said, as cited by the Post-Courier.
“It is designed to refer them to relevant sectoral industries like oil palm, coffee, cocoa and vegetable farming.”
“We want to offer a second chance in life to those who’ve slipped through the cracks,” he added.

Keeping young people in the local community
Apart from this, the programme ensures that young people can remain in their local communities rather than travelling to Port Moresby or other cities for opportunities.
“This is the translation of Prime Minister James Marape’s statement of leaving no one behind.”
“The government is not waiting anymore. We are taking action,” Itaki said.
