Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma says he is “excited for what lies ahead” after joining Manchester City in a £26 million transfer from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
James Trafford has been number one for City so far this season, but Pep Guardiola’s team are 13th in the Premier League table after losing two of their first three league games.
City have been toppled by Tottenham at home and Brighton & Hove Albion away – and Guardiola moved to sign Donnarumma, 26, on a five-year contract before the closure of the summer transfer window, which slammed shut at 7pm on Monday, September 1.
The Italy international arrives at the Etihad Stadium with a wealth of goalkeeping experience, having made 215 Serie A appearances for AC Milan and 104 Ligue 1 starts for PSG.
Ederson out, Donnarumma in
Ederson’s departure for Fenerbahçe in a £12m deal has paved the way for Donnarumma and Trafford to fight for the number one jersey in Manchester.
And Donnarumma told the club’s official website: “To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me.
“I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola.
“This is a club every player in world football would love to join.”

Admiration for Man City
The Italian added: “I have admired watching Manchester City for many years – so to now be able to play for the club is a huge honour and a privilege.
“I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates, the staff, and the fans. Playing at the Etihad Stadium will be very, very special for me.
“I am very excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the club achieve even more success.”
