United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a big plan for his 80th birthday on June 14, 2026 – an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) card to be held at the White House.

While at the US Navy base in Norfolk, Virginia, Trump announced to a crowd of sailors that “we’re going to have a big UFC fight at the White House – right at the White House, on the grounds of the White House”.

The 79-year-old has been a regular guest at the contests where fighters punch, kick, and grapple with their opponent in a no-holds-barred battle to submission or knockout.

The president is also no stranger to lavish celebrations as just a few months ago he held a military parade to commemorate the US Army’s founding.

Independence Day bout clash

Trump’s plan comes several months after UFC boss Dana White announced a bout at the White House on July 4, 2026 – the 250th anniversary of Independence Day.

White stated at a media scrum shared on UFC’s YouTube page that they will start studying the possibility of holding a White House card.

He added that the event would be the greatest fight card ever assembled in the history of the company.

UFC occasionally holds a pay-per-view bout weeks after a scheduled fight but Trump’s announcement is seemingly in conflict with White’s statement, so it’s now up to the mixed martial arts organisation which date it should be.

UFC gaining mainstream acceptance

The sport’s popularity with young men – a key demographic in the 2024 US election – and Trump’s long association with the UFC have made the president a regular fixture at some of its more high-profile events, where he is greeted like a rock star.

UFC is the largest and most successful MMA company in the world, blending martial arts disciplines like jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, boxing, and wrestling.

Bouts take place in an eight-sided ring dubbed ‘The Octagon’ and surrounded by a chain-link fence.

Male and female fighters are allowed to employ almost any technique to attack their foes with some exceptions, such as eye-gouging.

Its brutal nature and high injury rate mean the sport is controversial, with doctors decrying the potential for brain damage amongst fighters who are repeatedly hit in the head, although it has nevertheless gained increasing mainstream acceptance in recent years.
