US President Donald Trump is visiting the United Kingdom this week in a much-awaited event that is sure to stun with its pomp and grandeur.

Trump landed in London with his wife, Melania, on Tuesday night and was immediately welcomed by the UK’s foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper.

On Wednesday morning, Trump finally met King Charles III, his wife Queen Camilla, and his son and daughter-in-law, the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate.

The president also inspected the guard of honour with the king before heading to Windsor Castle for a private lunch.

Six months of preparation

The centrepiece of the visit is undoubtedly the lavish banquet taking place at the striking St George’s Hall on Wednesday night.

160 guests are expected to be making an appearance at the incredible venue, which over the years has been the backdrop for weddings and royal services.

Preparations for the event started six months ago, with fresh produce being sown and grown over the past few weeks.

“It’s our opportunity to show the best of our British produce,” said royal chef Mark Flanagan.

Although the menu is still officially under wraps, one thing is for certain: Trump will not be served any alcohol, as he is a teetotaler.

Not all that glitters is gold

Although the state visit is destined to be an extravagant affair, Trump’s arrival in the UK is not being welcomed by all.

On Tuesday, approximately 70 protesters turned up outside Windsor Castle to oppose the president’s presence.

At the same time, a huge photograph of Trump with deceased financier and child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was projected onto one of the castle’s sides.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries are also tense as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is still dealing with the aftermath of firing the British ambassador to the US, Lord Peter Mandelson.

Mandelson was relieved of his duties just last week over his former ties to Epstein, although a friendship with the infamous figure had long been public knowledge.

The dispute constitutes another headache for Starmer and is sure to create friction during his meeting with Trump on Thursday.

The two politicians are set to meet at Starmer’s country house, Chequers, in Buckinghamshire.
