On Friday, AVAC Vietnam JSC exported 1.1 million doses of its AVAC LSD LIVE vaccine for lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle and buffaloes to South Korea.
The export marked a breakthrough for Vietnam’s veterinary vaccine industry as domestically produced vaccines gained access to highly regulated international markets.
Demand from South Korea arose from its national vaccination program following recent LSD outbreaks, AVAC’s general director Nguyen Van Diep said, as cited by Vietnam News.
He said AVAC secured the contract after competing against multiple international manufacturers and distributors, with its vaccine chosen for meeting strict standards on quality, technical documentation, and pricing.
Stringent testing
The South Korean order was placed in March, with delivery requested before May 15 to support the East Asian country’s vaccination drive.
Ahead of the shipment, AVAC submitted vaccine samples to international reference laboratories in Europe and Africa for testing and quality assessments, Vietnam News reported.
Vaccine batches were also independently evaluated at the World Organization for Animal Health reference laboratory in Belgium before being approved for South Korea’s vaccination program.
Diep said South Korean authorities highly appreciated AVAC’s technical records, manufacturing standards, and international test results.

Major breakthrough
Nguyen Thi Huong, chairwoman of the Vietnam Veterinary Science and Technology Association, described the export as a major achievement highlighting Vietnam’s growing capabilities in veterinary vaccine research, biotechnology, and production on the global stage.
She noted that AVAC’s accomplishment reflects the progress made by local scientists, veterinarians, and researchers, while the successful development and commercialization of the LSD vaccine strengthens the international standing of domestic veterinary vaccines.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Xuan Duong, chairman of the Animal Husbandry Association of Vietnam, called the export an important milestone for the local veterinary vaccine sector.
He recalled that when LSD first emerged in Vietnam during 2019-2020, the Southeast Asian country relied on imported vaccines for prevention and control.
But within just a few years, domestic companies succeeded in mastering the technology and producing commercial LSD vaccines to satisfy local demand.
Duong added that the shipment to South Korea demonstrates the major advances domestic firms have achieved in veterinary vaccine research and high-tech manufacturing.
