In the next few weeks, the White House will host a Ultimate Fighting Championship fight card.
Yes, you read that correctly, the home of the president of the United States will hold an unprecedented UFC card between the sitting President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and the 250th year of independence.
Are you ready for ‘UFC Freedom 250’?
The first UFC event at the White House, referred to as “UFC Freedom 250,” is scheduled for June 14, 2026, on the South Lawn.
The event will be held in a 5,000-seat outdoor arena, marking the US 250th anniversary and the US president’s 80th birthday.
Trump was the first sitting president to attend a UFC show, taking in a 2019 fight that was stopped because of a cut over the loser’s eye.
The event connects with Trump’s gleefully combative charisma and extreme ideological masculinity – a brawling, no-holds-barred approach to the highest office in the land.
Veteran MMA referee and commentator John McCarthy understands why the US president likes MMA and the UFC.
According to McCarthy, fighting is about technique and style, and understanding how to make your opponent make mistakes while you do not.
“A lot of people don’t understand fighting and they think fighting is about anger. It’s not. If you’re angry when you fight, you’ll lose.”
‘UFC Freedom 250’ is on Sunday, not Saturday
The event is planning to issue 85,000 free tickets for the event.
UFC boss Dana White, who is a longtime friend of Trump, will establish a 5,000-seat arena right outside the front door of the White House and eight large screens in a nearby park for ticket-holders to watch from afar.
Unlike the usual Saturday timeslot, “UFC Freedom 250” is on a Sunday and Paramount+ will cover the match live.
Paramount+ is controlled by the Ellison family, who are close allies of Trump.
While it is subject to change, the card will feature two championship fights.
Brazil’s Alex Pereira will meet France’s Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title.
Then Spanish-Georgian lightweight champion Ilia Topuria takes on interim champ Justin Gaethje, one of just two Americans who currently hold even a share of the UFC’s 11 championship belts.

Mixed reactions from experts, fans
The card alone received flak from fans and MMA experts, branding the fight lineup as lacking talent.
Former two-division champion Jon Jones was not on the card and asked to be released from the UFC after being snubbed from the White House show.
Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey pointed out that UFC’s White “knows the White House card sucks.”
Rousey is mounting a comeback outside the promotional outfit, believing that the promotion would not meet her financial expectations.
She noted the White House show “fell extremely short of expectations.”
The White House did not answer questions about criticism of the card or the event’s aggressive politics.
Instead, communications director Steven Cheung, said, “This will be one of the greatest and most historic sports events in history.”
Cheung, a UFC spokesman before joining Trump’s 2016 campaign, called Trump’s event “a testament to his vision to celebrate America’s monumental 250th anniversary.”
A UFC spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
Whether it is disappointing or monumental, the event will be beamed around the world and it is up to the viewers to decide if “UFC Freedom 250” is a pop or a dud.
