The Oscars ceremony is set to relocate from its longtime home at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, just over 14 kilometres away.
The announcement, made by the Academy on Thursday, explained that it has reached a 10-year agreement with AEG, the operator of the L.A. Live complex where the Peacock Theater is located.
According to the Associated Press, the move is surprising given that the Dolby was developed by the Academy as a home for the Oscars, with the ceremony having been held there since 2002.
The Dolby will continue to host the event as it airs in its final years on ABC, concluding with the 100th Academy Awards in 2028.
YouTube partnership
This is the second major announcement made by the company in less than six months.
In December 2025, the Academy announced a new partnership with streaming platform YouTube, beginning in 2029 with the 101th Oscars ceremony and running through 2033.
The partnership will offer worldwide access for film fans to other Academy events and programmes exclusively on the Oscars YouTube channel.
This includes Governors Awards, the Oscar nominations announcement, the Oscar nominees luncheon, the Student Academy Awards, Academy member and filmmaker interviews, film education programmes, podcasts and more.
“The partnership will allow us to expand access to the work of the Academy to the largest worldwide audience possible, which will be beneficial for our Academy members and the film community,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Lynette Howell Taylor in a statement.
“This collaboration will leverage YouTube’s vast reach and infuse the Oscars and other Academy programming with innovative opportunities for engagement while honouring our legacy.”

New venue
The Academy further stated that, under the new agreement, AEG will make major upgrades to the Peacock Theater and its tech set-up, aiming to “collaborate closely with the Academy to incorporate bespoke design elements needed to accommodate the Oscars ceremony”.
“For the 101st Oscars and beyond, the Academy looks forward to closely collaborating with AEG to make L.A. Live the perfect backdrop for our global celebration of cinema,” Kramer and Taylor explained.
The Peacock Theater, which opened as the Staples Center in 2007, has hosted the Emmy Awards almost every year since 2008.
It is located next to the Crypto.com Arena, home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings as well as the annual Grammys ceremony.
