Finding the person behind the mysterious disappearance of a local schoolgirl years before has led 17-year-old Pip Fitz-Amobi to discover disturbing, entangled stories that brought the dark secrets of the people she suspected to light, even the ones close to her.

But as she turns 18, the breakthrough of her first case she thought was over may only be just the beginning of a deeper investigation that will shake her character as a “good girl”.

The said plot is a tease to the second installment of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” the series adaptation of Holly Jackson’s “multimillion-selling” mystery book trilogy, expected to premiere later this year.

Another chase of mystery

The BBC confirmed in early April the return of the series through a clip posted on the official Instagram page of BBC iPlayer, which showed Jackson together with actors Emma Myers and Asha Banks, who play the roles of Pip and Cara, respectively.

Based on their setting, filming has kicked off for the second season.

“The girls are home,” the post captioned, with the three saying in unison, “We’re back!”

“Hello! Welcome to the set of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season 2,” Jackson introduced, adding, “It’s good to be back and to get up to some… murder. And mayhem!” a report from Digital Spy quoted.

Myers and Banks proceeded to fool around before a montage of behind-the-scenes snippets went on for the rest of the clip.

Thanks to the success of the first season last year, the renewal of the show was sealed and announced last November.

The emergence of ‘morally gray’ events

Pip will once again be the center of another, but more questionable, disappearance, but this time she is eager to put her morals to the test.

As Pip is desperate to fix the fallout and avoid any more investigations, the upcoming episodes will follow her after she solves the case, showing how her actions change her world, and not always in a positive light.

The synopsis adds that season two “will take Pip to unexpected places as she struggles with the idea of justice, straying even further from the ‘good girl’ she once was,” the report also mentioned.

Culturess described the first season as “a fun and quick binge-worthy show that will make a potentially boring day a lot more entertaining.”

It received praise and currently has an excellent 83 percent fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Premiere date to be determined

Although filming has started, the BBC has not yet finalised the premiere date for the second installment.

Season 2, however, is speculated to debut on screen in late 2025 based on production timetables and the normal release window for serialized dramas, a related report from The Economic Times stated.

The succeeding episodes will be accessible to viewers throughout the United Kingdom via BBC iPlayer, just like the first installment.

Details about distribution will be provided to viewers worldwide soon, especially in light of the show’s increasing popularity on digital platforms.

The trilogy’s success

Since the last book of the trilogy was published in 2021, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (2019), Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020) and As Good As Dead (2021) have reached outstanding commercial success as of 2024, making Jackson one of the top-selling female crime authors in the UK.

Copies of the first three books, along with a novella, Kill Joy, in 2021, exceeded seven million sales across the globe and were translated into 40 languages.

However, the exact global sales figures of the trilogy are not publicly disclosed, according to theguardian.com.

The books’ remarkable sales and cultural influence can be attributed to their enormous popularity, which has been reinforced by “strong word-of-mouth and social media buzz,” notably on social media platforms like TikTok.
