The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 33-29 in the American Football Conference final on Sunday, January 26, securing a shot at an unprecedented third straight title and setting up a Super Bowl LIX clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles, meanwhile, thrashed the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the National Football Conference final and will now head to the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans this February as the NFL season reaches its climax.

Mahomes outguns Allen

The Chiefs-Bills showdown delivered another thrilling duel between the game’s two best quarterbacks – but it was Patrick Mahomes who got the better of his Bills counterpart Josh Allen.

Mahomes ran for a 10-yard touchdown and completed a two-point conversion to put Kansas City up 29-22 in the fourth quarter.

Curtis Samuel’s touchdown brought the Bills level, but Harrison Butker’s 35-yard field goal sealed the win.

“I’m just so proud of my team-mates and how they responded,” Mahomes told reporters.

“That was a great football team and I’m just, I’m just lost of words. I’m just excited to get down to New Orleans – let’s go make history.”

Taylor Swift watches on

Pop superstar Taylor Swift was again in attendance to cheer on boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who had a relatively quiet game with just two catches for 19 yards.

Swift began her romance with Kelce last season and she’ll almost certainly be in New Orleans with her celebrity friends next month.

Hurts and Barkley star for Eagles

In Philadelphia, quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley led the way for the Eagles with three touchdowns each.

The record win gave the Eagles their second Super Bowl appearance in three years and the chance to avenge their 2023 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs.

Rookie Daniels falls short

Washington’s Jayden Daniels, aiming to become the first rookie quarterback to reach the Super Bowl, threw for 255 yards with one touchdown.

However, the Commanders’ four turnovers proved costly, as they were ultimately no match for the Eagles’ powerful running game.
