Japanese video game designer and writer Hideo Kojima has launched the first trailer for ‘OD’, a horror game he is currently developing with ‘Get Out’ and ‘Nope’ filmmaker Jordan Peele.
‘OD’ was first announced at The Game Awards in 2023, together with a teaser trailer featuring photorealistic 3D scans of the game’s actors: Sophia Lillis (‘It’), Hunter Schafer (‘Euphoria’), and Udo Kier (‘Breaking the Waves’, ‘Europa’).
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios will publish the game, in addition to helping Kojima Productions with its development in Unreal Engine.
There is, however, no information on whether ‘OD’ will be an Xbox-exclusive video game.
Kojima is famously known for ‘Metal Gear Solid’, ‘Death Stranding’, and the recently-released ‘Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’.
Similar “vibes” with Kojima’s cancelled game ‘P.T.’
Subtitled ‘Knock’, the photorealistic first-person ‘OD’ trailer shows the player lighting candles in an empty room as heavy knocks ring out.
The door then opens with a loud creak, and the camera flips around, showing the player character’s face (Lillis) and someone – or something – else behind her in the blurry background.
She remains frozen, with her face contorted in a look of utter horror, until large, grayish hands grab her.
Video game enthusiasts, especially those who have been following Kojima for a while, were raving about how the new trailer seems to share similar “vibes” with ‘P.T.’.
‘P.T.’ is a playable demo of ‘Silent Hills’, a horror game Kojima was working on with another famed director, Guillermo del Toro, before it was eventually cancelled by video game company Konami in 2015.

Peele working on a different ‘OD’ experience: Kojima
At the trailer’s announcement during Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary event, Kojima said Peele will be working on a different kind of fear for ‘OD’, as his will be about the fear of the knock.
“I’m really afraid of the knock sound!” said Kojima, as quoted by Polygon.
It is unclear whether that meant ‘OD’ would be an anthology of games or if Peele would direct a film linked to ‘OD’.
No release date or formats for the game were announced.
Physint: A ‘successor’ of video game classic ‘Metal Gear Solid’
Meanwhile, Kojima Productions also revealed ‘Physint’, a PlayStation-exclusive tactical espionage game, is hailed as a successor to ‘Metal Gear Solid’.
According to Kojima, ‘Physint’ “will be using technology even further than OD.”
He did not share any more details about the project, but he did name three of the game’s cast members.
This includes Australian actress Charlee Fraser (‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’), Korean action star Ma Dong-seok/Don Lee (‘Train to Busan’), and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe (‘Godzilla Minus One’).
