Hollywood actress Kathryn Hahn will be taking on the role of Mother Gothel in Disney’s upcoming live adaptation of ‘Tangled’.
The star hinted at the news of her casting in a joint Instagram post with Disney Studios.
In the video, Hahn showed her “outfit of the day”, revealing a shirt with a trendy design of the Disney villain from the 2010 animated film.
As if that’s not enough of a confirmation, Hahn also changed her Instagram handle to “motherhahn”, and her bio now reads: “mother knows best” — referencing the villain’s iconic song of the same title.
Walt Disney confirms
Walt Disney Studios officially confirmed the casting by later reposting the video on its social media accounts with the caption, “You want her to be the bad guy? FINE. Kathryn Hahn is Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled.”
The announcement comes after Deadline reported in January that Hahn was in talks for the role, sparking rumours and questions during red carpet and press events, which she evaded by expressing her love for Mother Gothel or playing “gnarly witches”.
On that note, this is not the first time that Hahn will star as a villainous witch, as she is well-known for her roles as Agatha Harkness in Disney’s “Wanda Vision” and “Agatha All Along.”

Previous cast announcements
Hahn joins a previously announced cast, namely, Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.
While the live-action project has reportedly been in development since 2024, Disney has yet to announce a release date or any further details about the movie, including which songs fans can expect.
However, it has been confirmed that the live adaptation will be directed by Michael Gracey, with a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin.
‘Tangled’ tells the fairytale story of Rapunzel, a young princess with magical long hair who was kidnapped when she was a baby by Mother Gothel and locked away in a tower.
