Girl group BINI made history on Saturday as the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella, successfully bringing the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to the global stage.

Wearing gold, warrior-inspired outfits, the eight-member group opened strong with “Shagidi,” a playful and energetic track inspired by a popular Filipino game.

Members Maloi, Jhoanna, Stacey, Gwen, Colet, Aiah, Mikha, and Sheena stunned the crowd at the Mojave tent with their sharp dance skills and powerful stage presence.

The audience grew even more energized as they transitioned to their next song, “Zero Pressure,” while revealing a second look featuring a glittery, mermaid-inspired outfit that gave off an island vibe.

“Mabuhay! (cheers)” BINI greeted in unison as they paused to introduce themselves.

“We are so hyped to be here, and we hope you are all ready to party with us in the desert,” Jhoanna said.

“We are so grateful to be here to represent the Philippines on the global stage and to share with you guys our music,” Aiah added.

The 45-minute set also included their hit songs “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin,” both of which topped the Billboard Philippines charts during their peak popularity.

BINI became No.1 topic on X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly after their highly anticipated debut at the annual festival.

Hashtags #BINI_CoachellaWk1, #BINICHELLA and #Pantropiko garnered millions of posts as fans and viewers shared clips, reactions, and praise for the group’s performance.

“Watching BINI stand on the Coachella stage felt surreal in the most powerful way. Not just because of where they were, but because of everything it took to get there,” one of the users posted.

Many also praised the group’s extended dance break in “Pantropiko,” highlighting their high-energy and synchronized choreography.

“What an incredible performance. Ending strong with Pantropiko!,” another user said.

Pinoy pride powers BINI’s confidence

After their performance, Sheena shared how seeing Philippine flags raised in the crowd immediately boosted their confidence.

“Backstage, we were already checking our phones like, ‘Girls, will anyone watch us? Is there anyone there?’ Because we came on really early, and it was so hot—it wasn’t the usual time when people show up,” she said in Filipino.

She added, “But earlier when we walked in, during the intro of ‘Shagidi,’ it was packed. The Philippine flags were raised, and there were so many Blooms and casual fans.”

Colet also said they were surprised to see casuals and non-Filipino fans vibing to their songs.

“It made us enjoy the stage,” she added, as quoted by ABS-CBN.

BINI will perform again at Coachella next week, April 17, alongside Sabrina Carpenter, The XX and Katseye.
