From France, to England, to Spain and Italy, Europe is a hotspot for filming locations.
This year’s highly anticipated ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ filmed many scenes in Milan and Lake Como in Italy.
However, you may be wondering where else in Europe big-name films are regularly shot.
Here are seven of Europe’s most filmed in locations, and if you’re a cinema nerd, the perfect roadmap for your next trip.
Milan, Italy
Milan is famous for its rich culture and fashion indulgence.
Besides ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, many other popular films have been filmed in Milan, including ‘House of Gucci’, ‘Murder Mystery’ and ‘Call Me by Your Name’.
Noteworthy landmarks include Duomo di Milano (Piazza del Duomo) and Milano Centrale Station.
Paris, France
Paris is considered Europe’s most popular filming location due to its highly recognisable scenery.
The French city is the backdrop of many beloved and critically acclaimed films such as ‘Inception’, ‘Amélie’, ‘Midnight in Paris’ and ‘The Da Vinci Code’.
Popular landmarks include the district of Montmartre, the Seine Bridges, the Latin Quarter and, of course, the Eiffel Tower.

London, England
London is similarly an immensely popular filming location due to the high hustle atmosphere it presents and the constant stream of activity that brings.
Due to its uniformly urban appearance, London is often able to be disguised as another city, which further makes it useful for filming.
‘Notting Hill’, ‘Paddington’, ‘Sherlock Homes’ and ‘James Bond’ are a few of the iconic titles shot in the city.
Monumental locations include Kings Cross Station, Notting Hill, Trafalgar Square, and Big Ben.
Barcelona, Spain
Barcelone is famous for its vibrant culture and colourful scenes.
The Gothic Quarter, Park Güell, and Casa Milà are some of its most popular spots.
The Spanish city is home to many classics like ‘The Italian Job’, ‘No Time to Die’ and ‘La Dolce Vita’.
Gorlitz, Germany
Gorlitz is favoured for its preserved historic architecture, making it ideal for films with a more vintage aesthetic.
While it is a lesser known name than the others on the list, this city has hosted major films like ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, ‘The Book Thief’ and ‘Inglorious Bastards’.
Some of the popular filming locations include Görlitzer Warenhaus (a department store), Untermarkt (Lower Market Square), and Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church).

Vienna, Austria
Vienna is, similarly to Gorlitz, ideal for those looking for a historic atmosphere for their film.
‘Amadeus’, ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’, and ‘Woman in Gold’ are a sample of the movies that feature it.
Iconic locations include Albertina Museum & Maria-Theresien-Platz, Zollamtssteg Bridge, and Café Sperl.
One of Vienna’s most famous film appearances is ‘Before Sunrise’, and the record shop Jesse and Celine visit is still open to this day.
The Scottish Highlands, Scotland
The Scottish Highlands are a frequently used spot for filming.
It is home to the various ‘Harry Potter’ films, ‘Skyfall’, ‘Highlander’ and many more.
Notable filming locations include Glenfinnan Viaduct & Loch Shiel (the curving railway seen in Harry Potter), Glen Nevis & Steall Falls, Eilean Donan Castle (Loch Duich) and Rannoch Moor.
