Cole Palmer has warned that Enzo Maresca is “building something special” at Chelsea after the Blues beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to win the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

In a first-half blitz, Palmer scored twice before new signing João Pedro put the icing on the cake as European champions PSG fell apart at the final hurdle of a long season.

For the London side, Club World Cup success secures a whopping £100 million in prize money along with the title of ‘world champions’.

Palmer savours proving the doubters wrong

With star-laden PSG having obliterated Real Madrid in the semi-finals, many expected Chelsea to struggle against Luis Enrique’s side in New Jersey.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, Palmer called out those doubters, saying: “Obviously it’s a great feeling, even better because obviously everyone doubted us before the game.

“But to go out there and put a fight on like we did against a great team, it’s good.”

Regarding his personal contribution to the triumph, Palmer was quick to credit Maresca, saying: “The gaffer put a great game plan out. He knew where the space was going to be. I just had to repay him and score some goals.

“He’s building something special. Something important. I feel like we are going in the right direction.”

Maresca predicts ‘exciting’ future for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Maresca applauded his team’s efforts at the MetLife Stadium and claimed that the game was won in the opening exchanges.

“No words for the players. They deserve it. It’s a good moment,” the Italian told DAZN.

“For me, we won the game in the first 10 minutes. In the first 10 minutes, we set the tempo for the way we want to play. We were very good.

“Unfortunately, with the weather conditions, it is not easy to do for 90 minutes, but I think we won the game in the first ten minutes.”

On Palmer’s brilliant display, Maresca was full of praise, saying: “We found a position for him where there was space to attack.

“I’m happy for Cole but the effort from all the players has been fantastic.

“Our future is very exciting, but I’m more excited for three weeks off!”
